Floppy Drive Does Not Show Up In My Computer

In case when your floppy drive does not show up in your “My Computer” whereas all other drives are showing up than you must first check if your drive is working fine?

Click on Start > Run and in the Run windows type compmgmt.msc, click on Device Manager and in the right pane right click on Floppy Disk Controllers and select properties. Check if the device is working fine. If it isn’t than you need to contact your hardware vendor else if it is working fine than read on the problem seems to be in your BIOS.

Before proceeding make sure you know how to play with your BIOS. If you cannot better get help from experienced hands.

Check the CMOS settings and see if the floppy drive is visible. Ensure that the CMOS is set to “Halt on all errors” and also check that the BIOS’ “Report the floppy drive to OS” setting is enabled.

Another reason could be drive letter conflicts caused by software such as RAMdisk.

Another reason might be the TweakUI power toy available at microsoft for FREE download. (check the right column for the download link.) The tool can cause drive letters to be hidden in Windows Explorer and My Computer. If you have it installed, go to the Control Panel and double-click on TweakUI. In the My Computer tab, select the checkboxes of the drives shown as hidden. Click Close and restart.
