If there are a junk of photos that were clicked for a particular occasion, say John's Birthday, select all files (Ctrl+A) > right click on one of the files > rename > type Johns Birthday > hit Enter. Now all the files will inherit the same name in numerical series...Johns Birthday1, Johns Birthday2 and so on. Renaming a cluster of files is as simple as 1-2-3.
