Remove The “Use Web To Find Program To Open Unknown File Type”
Whenever you click on any unknown file format then what you get is the dialog box which gives you two options:
- Use the web service to find the appropriate program (to open that particular file format.)
- Select the program from a list.

99% of chances are that you will select the second option and find the appropriate program your list (the list contains those programs which are already installed in your computer.)
Here that first dialog box which gives you the other option of searching the web seems to be useless and to help you save few important seconds of yours here I will teach you a registry hack using which you will be able to override that particular dialog box and straight away see the above “open with” list.
Open the registry editor:
To open registry in Vista press the Windows key, type regedit, and press Enter; in XP, click Start > Run, type regedit, and press Enter.
Now in the left pane of the window browse to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer
Now in the right pane of the window create a 32-bit DWORD value:
- Name: NoInternetOpenWith
- Value: 1

No need to restart the system. Changes take effect straight away
