Was Download Day Of Firefox 3 A Hoax?
Well, don’t get me wrong. I have been using Firefox for last 2 years and usually every odd hour you will find around three tabs opened in my Firefox window.
Firefox 3 was to be launched on June 17th and their were plans to hit the Guinness Book of World Records for most software downloads in a day. Almost every blog posted about this and at the end of the day the number turned out to be 8,002,530 downloads in 24 hrs. They finally made it to the Guinness Book of World Records.
I was also one of those of who wrote about this in my blog and I registered for the pledge that I will download Firefox 3 with 2 different emails. Now the weird part is that I didn’t download Firefox 3 on June 17th! Still I received email (in both my mail boxes) where they thanked me for the download and gave me the PDF file using which I downloaded my certificate that I was part of the download?!?!
If I didn’t download the software then why was I counted twice for the World Record?
I love Firefox and will keep using it even if you people kick me hard for this silly post. ![]()

Even if you didn’t download firefox you received that email simply because you gave the email adress. The actual count didn’t take into account the emails. Only the actual downloads were considered. Also even if you didn’t download FF nor submitted your email id you could get the certificate. You merely had to type your name to get it.

The email was sent out to all the users who registered, and by the way Firefox did not keep track of email ids while downloading.
