Well, after some intense searching on the Internet for some original spytector review I felt the need to write one as there isn’t even one single totally unbiased review of spytector present on the Internet. If you find any then please do inform me via comments.
It has been over a month when I bought the lifetime license of spytector full version. At that time it cost me $229.95 and I will admit that I am satisfied though their are lots of available areas where these people can improve (and of course they are working hard continuously to improve their application). The reason behind buying a keylogger was this blog itself. I have recieved many emails from some of my readers requesting details and quality of various keyloggers. Though their are many free keyloggers and various free keylogger download available on the Internet yet none fulfil the exact purpose and none are totally undetectable. Spytector keylogger looked to be the best amongst all keyloggers and hence I had to wet my hands on it.

Spytector keylogger is byfar the best keylogger available on the Internet as of now. Though every keylogger promises to bypass antivirus softwares and various firewalls but they do get detected sooner or later due to their availability on the Internet. This is where spytector keylogger has an upper hand. Guys at spytector.com promise instant availability of updated spytector keylogger within 48 hours IF in case the current spytector keylogger gets detected by any antivirus. Spytector keylogger bypasses literally all the best antivirus softwares and delivers log files via email as well as via FTP as per the settings selected by user. The homepage of spytector.com enlists all the features of spytector keylogger and I will also enlist them below BUT I will also add some of the downsides which these features posses in red color.
Monitoring Features
- Keystrokes: Spytector keylogger literally captures all the keystrokes of the computer in which it is installed.
- Websites: Spytector keylogger can successfully block various websites containing some pre-specified keyword. By example, if you add “porn” in its list then all the URLs containing the keyword “pron” will be blocked by spytector keylogger.
- Applications: Spytector keylogger can successfully block various applications when listed in its list. All you need to do is specify the executable name in the list and the application with that name gets blocked.
- Both Sides of Chat: You must not take this feature for granted as it doesn’t work with gtalk (or gmail chat) as well as for the yahoo messenger 9.0 (currently the latest version). I haven’t tested it with other chat clients as I guess gtalk and yahoo are the major ones. It does work well with yahoo messenger 8.0.
- Keylogger Filter: Using this feature spytector keylogger lets you lets you detect key strokes for some specified applications only. This features works well in most cases though it is totally impractical to test it for every possible application.
- Clipboard Monitoring: This features simply copies everything this is in clipboard into the log file and works fine too.
- Boot Events: The spytector keylogger successfully records the exact timings of system being booted and then again shutdown.
- Passwords: Though this feature works brilliantly for mozilla firefox and displays all the ID/Passwords stored in its Password Bank (protected storage) yet it just dosen’t work precisely for Internet Explorer. Unfortunately Internet Explorer seems to store plenty of garbage value in its protected storage and spytector keylogger retrives every bit of the information thus 90% of the information retrieved from Internet Explorer is useless. For a lay man it might actually be 100% useless as he/she might not be able to distinguish between what is usefull and what isn’t. Lastly, this features of retriving passwords from Internet Explorer works ONLY for Windows XP and NOT for Windows Vista.
- Built-in Log Viewer Utility: Spytector keylogger application has its own built-in log viewer utility which displays logs and makes it easy for you to distinguish between various sections of log as it displays various sections in different easy-to-distinguish colors. The only downside being this built-in utility isn’t able to display passwords retrived from protected storage of Internet Explorer due to the unwated garbage value present in protected storage of Internet Explorer. It also fails to display both side chats for those versions of chat clients which it isn’t able to detect like gtalk and yahoo messenger 9.0.
- Option to save settings: Using this feature you can save settings of your spytector keylogger and hence you won’t have to start from beginning when you restart the application in order to create any new server.
- Editable Server Name, Log Name, Log Size, And Startup Key Name: Using this feature you can edit the name of server and log file which you create and also edit the size of log file which it must reach before being sent to you via email or FTP. You can also create a startup registry key which will be used by the server to start itself at every boot.
- Skinnable Interface: You can also change the skin of spytector keylogger application as per your requirements.
- FTP and Email Log Delivery: Though the FTP feature works fine (with my FTP account using dreamhost hosting) yet I am not satisfied with the email delivery of log files. As per my analysis I receive more log files via FTP than via email which means many times some of the log files aren’t sent via email (into my gmail account). Another downside is that the email feature won’t work with yahoo mails.
- Remotely Deployable: You can manually install the server on any remote computer and you will start receiving log files as per your settings BUT this feature nowhere means that you can automatically install the server on any remote computer. You will either have to carry it in a USB or upload on some server and then download when you can access to the remote machine.
- Protected Storage: As pointed before, protected storage for Internet explorer stores huge amount of garbage value and hence becomes literally useless for the user though some information in that garbage value might be of some importance.
- Firefox Passwords: Spytector keylogger successfully retrieves firefox passwords and cleanly displays them in the log file.
- URL History: This feature retrieves the URL history of Internet Explorer ONLY.
- Log Delivery: Using this feature spytector keylogger delivers log either when it touches some specific size or after some specified days.
- Works On Every Account: This feature actually means that the spytector keylogger must be installed separately on every account in a computer so as to track that account and it would NOT track the complete computer if installed on one account of that computer. Though this isn’t a downside yet people must be aware of this feature in its true terms.
- Smart Keylogger: Using this feature spytector keylogger detects backspace too and hence makes it easy for you to read the log files.
- Melting Option: This feature when enabled deletes the original server after it is run for the first time.
- Warning Message: Using this feature you can display any warning when somebody double clicks on the server. Warning could be something like “Application Failed To Start”. This way the user might not understand what exactly happened but the spytector keylogger gets successfully installed in the computer.
- Uninstall Options: Using various uninstall options you can uninstall the server from remote computer.
- Server Overwriting: This feature lets you install another spytector server on the same machine which already has one spytector server without any problems. The old server gets deleted and the new one gets installed. Unfortunately this feature worked on all Windows XP based machines but didn’t work on my Windows Vista based machine and hence I had two servers under the same administrator account.
- Totally invisible: Guys at spytector guarantee the undetection ONLY when scanned (RightClick -> Scan) with the following antiviruses: Norton, Kaspersky, McAfee, Panda, AVG, BitDefender, F-Secure, PC- Cillin. With my first experience the spytector keylogger did get caught by AVAST antivirus and they were quick to send me a new spytector keylogger which wasn’t visible to AVAST too but unfortunately after this they did tell me that they guarantee undetection ONLY when scanned (RightClick -> Scan) with the following antiviruses: Norton, Kaspersky, McAfee, Panda, AVG, BitDefender, F-Secure, PC- Cillin and hence I don’t think they will again entertain my requests IF somehow AVAST again catches the new version of spytector in the days to come. At one point this is genuine too as no human can create a keylogger application which remains undetected by all the antiviruses present on the Internet yet at least they should permit reporting and give guarantee that they will amend the spytector keylogger IF in case it gets detected by some other antivirus which isn’t mentioned in their website. As of now it gets detected by NO anti virus
- Advanced Firewall Bypass: Spytector keylogger is undetectable by most of the firewalls too though I couldn’t test it for many of them.
- Locally Encrypted Log Files: Log files can be encrypted so that nobody understands what the file contains IF somehow he/she gets hold of that file.
- Password Protection For Main Application: If your system is being used by many users then you can password protect your spytector keylogger application so that only you have the access to this application.
- Disable System Restore: Using this feature the spytector keylogger server disables system restore so as to prevent its removal.
Other then these this keylogger might have many other features but these were the most important ones and hence I mentioned them here. I am wondering if it still does not capture both sides of Yahoo 9.0 and above. That is a huge downside for me,
