Well, I am sure by now you must be very well familiar with the independent tabs feature of Google Chrome. As per this feature if some tab in your Google Chrome window hangs or crashes then it won’t result in the complete Google Chrome Window crashing. This feature was hyped a lot before and after the launch of Google Chrome.

Everyone said that this revolutionary feature of Google Chrome was unique when compared to the other competitive brothers and sisters. No, its not!

Google chrome is said to be fighting (and curbing down) Internet Explorer 8 but somehow they have copied the independent tabs feature from IE 8 itself. The process model of IE8 is given below.

If a website or add-on causes a tab to crash in Internet Explorer 8, only that tab is affected. The browser itself remains stable and other tabs remain unaffected, thereby minimizing any disruption to your browsing experience.

Funny but true, I heard one of my friend commenting that he would love to use Office 2007 but he didn’t had a copy of Windows Vista! I had to waist my 15 minutes to make him believe that Office 2007 could easily be used with Windows XP. And you know what, he was shocked. He just couldn’t believe that he would be able to use Office 2007 over his good old Windows XP system.

This inspired me to write down a short post for those who still think that to use Office 2007 they need to have Windows Vista installed in their systems. You just don’t need

What is this DirectX 10.1?

As the name suggest, DirectX 10.1 is upgraded version of DX 10 graphics specification, which will be in market with Vista Service Pack 1.

Which system will be able to handle DX 10.1?

Only the systems with Vista SP1 will use DX 10.1. The ones without SP1 will use DX10.

What is its significance?

DX 10.1 adds specs that were optional in DX 10 like the 32 bit FP filtering.

When will the real world actually see it running?

Although DX 10.1 is ready to take hold of the market (at least Microsoft thinks that way) still the games that utilize DX 10.1 spefication properly are yet to be built. But some good news is that ATI has released graphics card that are DX 10.1 capable. Vista SP1 is yet to be launched and we can just pray that DX 10.1 is compatible with XP.

What is the hype?

Those who have spent good bucks on DX 10 cards are worried that their cards might go obsolete. Although the games made for DX 10.1 will run on DX 10 but the features which need DX 10.1 won’t be available on DX 10. Everyone will have to upgrade at some point or the other.

Windows Vista did not take speed as Microsoft might have expected but one thing is clear, one day or the other almost all of us will be upgrading to vista. Recently I hit upon a page on Microsoft’s website 100 Reasons You’ll Be Speechless. Unfortunately I found only 31 to be useful for a “general user”.

Mostly the points were either repeated, have good alternatives in Windows XP or have better FREE softwares available as alternatives. Now you know why people find Windows Vista to be costly. It just doesn’t deliver what it promises.
