10 Reasons Why Your Windows ‘Will’ Crash

C’mon, admit it. You have faced Windows crash incidents every now and then. It might be your newly bought computer which crashed because you were new with Windows or your old computer which was stuffed with loads of data which crashed due to some unknown reasons. In a nutshell, they crash and you lose either precious time or useful data.
Instead of ignoring the problem it is suggested that one should get hold of the root cause of the problem so as to conquer it. Here I will list 10 reasons which you must be aware of if you are a regular Microsoft Windows user. Hopefully I will be of some help for you all.
Mismatch Of RAM Chips
Well, I have experienced this and hence I know how tiring it could be if you fall prey to this. I wasn’t well aware of the internal hardware of computer still I bought a new RAM chip and somehow inserted it in the given slot. Bang! BSOD was kicking my ass. I removed the chip but the harm was already done.
I had to run with my system to the vendor’s shop assuming it was the chip which caused the problem. He told me it was mismatch of RAM chips which caused the problem. I re-installed windows but lost all my data.
Bottom line - never user two RAM chips of different configuration as this will crash your computer some day or the other.
Remember that EMM386 error is also related with bad memory but not exactly RAM. This occurs mostly due to improper linking of free memory with unused programs. Totally another story.
Overuse of Hard Drives
Here I don’t mean that you should stop using your hard drive to save your system from crashing. Use your computer (and your hard drive of course) to the max but just make sure that you take proper care of your hard drive.
- De-fragment your hard drive regularly so as to properly organize the tit-bits of empty spaces which are created with time.
- Regularly delete temporary files and other useless files. Right click on the drive which you want to clean up and click properties. Then click the Disk Cleanup button.
- Lastly, if you have plenty of time then perform a complete system scan. Start > Programs > Accessories> System Tools > ScanDisk. This might take many hours so it is suggested that you perform Scan Disk during night hours when computer is idle.
Virus
Do I need to tell you that regular virus check is a must? Buy some quality anti-virus or get hold of some free ones and perform regular virus scan so as to avoid unnecessary issues.
Unnecessary Software
STOP downloading every software just out of curiosity. Instead, use only the trusted software. Many times we download useless software, install them, and then leave them installed even when we don’t need them. This installed software might well create problems internally and hence it is suggested that you uninstall all applications that you don’t require.
Abrupt Power Supply
This can be internal cause where the power supply inside your system isn’t working properly or it might be your external power which you use to run your computer.
In case of internal power supply, all you can do is replace it with the one which works properly. Otherwise, check your external power supply for voltage fluctuations. Improper power can create problems for your hardware.
Overheating
You must keep a watch on the fans which are being used to cool down your processor. If these fans stop working then it will take minutes for your processor to get overheated. Keep checking your fans regularly.
Printers
Printing documents uses CPU power and if the printer is overloaded then the CPU is bound to be overloaded. Hence one must keep a watch that the printer must not be overloaded with extra printing commands even when it already has many in the queue.
BIOS Settings
Never play with your BIOS if your aren’t aware of what you are up to. Believe it or not but some unwanted setting in BIOS can screw your computer very easily. Search for some BIOS related tutorials, read them carefully, and then change BIOS settings at your will.
Hardware Problems
Right click on My Computer icon and then click Properties. Now click on the Hardware Tab and then on Device Manager button. You will see a list of various hardware installed in your system. Any hardware which is creating problems will be displaying a yellow exclamation mark ‘!’ alongside. Its time to replace that hardware or if you can then work on the hardware to remove the problems
Any Arbit Reason
Well, your system can crash due to any unknown reason and hence it is suggested you always backup your data.
