Are You Dead? MyDeathSpace Is For You

Humans go to hell (..heaven for few!) after death and there MySpace profiles go to MyDeathSpace.com. Internet is full of innovations and when I hit this site, on Yahoo News, I had to blog about it!MyDeathSpace grew out of one person’s morbid curiosity in December 2005, when two teenage daughters were slain by their father. Mike Patterson, 26, a paralegal from San Francisco, tracked down their MySpace pages one day when he was bored. His voyeurism grew into a live journal that later became MyDeathSpace.

Behold a community spawned from twin American obsessions: Memorializing the dead and peering into strangers’ lives. Anyone with Internet access can submit a death to the site, which currently lists nearly 2,700 deaths and receives more than 100,000 hits per day.

Permission to use the profiles is not requested from MySpace, which is not affiliated with the site and did not respond to requests for comment on it. MySpace said in a statement it handles deceased members’ pages on a “case-by-case basis” and does not “allow anyone to assume control of a deceased user’s profile.” Profiles can be deleted if that’s requested by family members.

MyDeathSpace matter-of-fact catalogs each death in headline format: “Belford Ramirez (19) died after being stabbed in the neck outside of a Burger King.” Click on the link and you’ll find a detailed description of the fatal attack — an element usually pulled from a news article or blog — his photograph, and a link to his MySpace profile.

MySpace In Time’s 5 Worst Websites List

By far the most famous social network around and the most talked about too, MySpace.com was once included in 50 coolest websites of 2006 list of Time itself. But since then things have changed a lot. Many times MySpace has been criticized over different blogs because of the huge spamming which started to take place over it. True that it has been used for America’s presidential election campaigns, but that also failed to keep MySpace out of Time’s 5 worst websites list.Other 4 in the list are:

And let me add one to the list too. Orkut.com! Like MySpace it is also being madly used for spamming. Almost every community of orkut today is full of spam messages.

Future President In Your Friend List

“As the country’s most trafficked Web site, MySpace will play a powerful role in the upcoming election,” Chris DeWolfe, MySpace’s chief executive said in a statement.

Are you MySpace crazy? Then here is some exciting news for you. MySpace.com, the popular social networking site, on Sunday launched a section dedicated to the 2008 presidential election.

Called the Impact Channel, it’s the latest attempt by an Internet company to educate voters by serving as an information hub for political candidates and the public.

Democrats Obama, Hillary Rodham Clinton, John Edwards, Joe Biden and Dennis Kucinich have setup MySpace profiles. Republicans McCain, Rudolph Giuliani, Duncan Hunter, Mitt Romney and Ron Paul also have pages.

MySpace users will be able to read the candidates’ blogs, see photos and video and, if they choose, link their favorite candidate to their friends list or put a candidate’s ad onto their own pages.

Some candidates, taking advantage of the Internet’s potential to reach millions of voters, have already set up their own campaign Web sites and profiles on other social networking Web sites, including Facebook and Friendster.

Time to have some big names in your friend list and be a talked about profile among your friends.
