Gmail keeps getting better. It is not just the interface of Gmail but the unique features of the same that make it the best inbox on the Internet. From drag & drop for attachments to using multiple accounts from single browser (officially!) Gmail has continuously been rolling out some of the features which are a distant dream for other mailing services. Appending to its list of amazing features Gmail recently (and very silently) rolled out Priority Inbox which by far is the best Gmail feature that has been made available till now. Recently I have been very busy handling multiple assignments that I have taken up and I hardly received the time to mark emails as spam or delete the unwanted ones. This is when Gmail’s Priority Inbox has proved to be a boon for me.

In your inbox click on New! Priority Inbox from the right top corner and mark the mails that you think are important as priority. Submit the request and from now on you see your inbox divided into two different parts. Above the fold will be the mails that you marked as priority and below the fold will be mails below priority. Though this does not sound as overly geeky but it surely helps when you seem to be getting plenty of mails.

GMail keeps popping in news every now and then and it has done it again. GMail has officially introduced another best GMail feature using which one can use multiple accounts at a time from the same browser. Once this feature is turned on then you will be able to login to two or more different GMail accounts from one single browser without having to sign out from the other account. Running two GMail accounts simultaneously isn’t a hassle now.

All that you got to do is turn on multiple sign-in from your accounts page and you are good to go.

Click on Settings link on the top right corner from your GMail page.

Click on Accounts and Import tab.

From the Change account settings click on Google Account settings.

A new page opens up where you can turn on/off the Multiple sign in feature.

Four important features on Multiple sing-in that one must understand are listed below:

The account you’re currently using is displayed at the top of most Google product pages, or at the bottom of most pages on mobile devices. Always check to make sure you’re using the account you want.

Not all Google products support multiple sign-in. When switching between Google products, the account you’re currently using may change.

Google products not listed above will default to the first account that you signed in to using your current web browser session.

Offline Mail and Offline Calendar will be disabled. You may lose any unsent mail.

Remember, that to sign into your second account from the same browser you cannot just go to www.gmail.com in another tab (or window) and sign in to the other account. You will again have to head towards the settings page and click on Sign in to another account. . . so that you can finally sign in to your second account. I have summarized the steps below the image to eradicate any confusions.

Click on Settings link on the top right corner from your GMail page.

Click on Accounts and Import tab.

From the Change account settings click on Google Account settings.

A new page opens up from where on the top right corner you will find the drop down menu that you see above.

Do check another best GMail feature – The drag and drop attachments.

Every Internet surfer has a Gmail account. You might not be using Yahoo!, Rediff or Hotmail but you got to use Gmail at least once. It is just because of the simplicity of Gmail and the numerable unique features that Gmail offers which makes it amazingly attractive. Recently added to its list of best Gmail features is the drag and drop feature for attachments.

From now on instead of clicking on the Download link and then providing a path where to save the attachment all that you got to do is drag your attachment to the place where you want it to be saved. One can already drag and drop a file into the Gmail mail so as to attach the file into that particular mail. This best Gmail feature was already saving plenty of time for Gmail users and now the vice versa feature that can help you drag and drop the Gmail attachment onto the destination folder to save it is another exciting best Gmail feature that everybody will love to use.

I don’t think that in near future any other emailing service will touch the neatness and cleanliness of Gmail. Just not possible!

Many time I have seen some important emails landing into my spam folder in my GMail account. I am sure you might have also faced the same situation. Well, now this won’t happen as GMail has a new spam filter. Now you will be able to mark your important emails so that they do not land up in your spam folder.

Click on Settings link on the top right corner after logging into your GMail account.

Now click Filters Tab and then on Create New Filter.

Suppose you have subscribed to the General Motors newsletter which is sent weekly to you from the email info@gm.com. All you have to do is enter that email in the From field and click Next Step. You can fill up other fields as per your requirements.

Check the Never Send it to Spam checkbox and click Create Filter.

Your filter is ready and now no email which comes from the address info@gm.com will land into spam folder. Happy mailing!

Today I have another small tip for you which will help you to safeguard your Gmail account from being hacked.

Check your address bar when you are logged in your Gmail account.

You will see the address to be:

http://mail.google.com/mail/

Change this address to:

https://mail.google.com/mail/

Did you notice a the https in the second URL? This simple https will encrypt all the sessions and no one will be able to read the cookies which Gmail creates. Your Gmail account is safe from hackers now!

Well, this tip actually helps in cases if somehow a hacker is able to get to the settings of your gmail account. So I would request you to regularly check your settings so that you are content that no one else is busy using your mailbox along with you.

The above image shows the link which takes you to the settings page of your gmail account. Then as shown in image below click on “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” and choose the Disable Forwarding radio button in case it isn’t chosen.

There might be cases when you are using the forwarding feature from before as per your convenience but I would request you to keep a check if the mails are being forwarded to the account to which you want it to be forwarded to. Who knows if someone is forwarding your mails to some other mail box of his!
